Artfully Made, Soulfully Woven

Textured Art & Cozy Rugs - Made with Heart in Lake Norman

Hi, I’m Liz — the artist behind Brush & Knot.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been creating. As a young girl, I made clothes for my Barbies, not from kits or patterns, but from scraps and imagination.

In high school, I dreamed of going to art school for fashion design. Life, however, led me in a different direction — I studied Business and Hospitality Management, thinking that was the practical path.

But art was never far. Whether it was painting, drawing, crocheting, or crafting something beautiful with my hands, creativity remained my constant. I come from a line of artistic people — my mom, dad, and others were always making something — and though I never had formal training, I grew up surrounded by resourcefulness, beauty, and hands that knew how to bring ideas to life.

I learned by doing, by observing, and by following that inner nudge to create.

For a long time, I didn’t see myself as a “real” artist. It wasn’t until I met my husband — and saw how genuinely amazed and proud he was by what I created — that I began to believe in the gift I’d carried all along.

Today, my work blends contemporary abstract and textural impressionism, often inspired by the natural beauty around Lake Norman and the breathtaking intricacy of God’s creation.

I also work with textiles — sometimes out of creative joy, sometimes out of necessity (like the 10-foot rug I made for our living room when I couldn’t find what I wanted — and that turned into more).

Whether I'm brushing paint across canvas to relax, creating out of a diving prompting, knotting fibers into form, or weaving something functional, I create to feel, and my hope is the same. That others feel something too — wonder, rest, joy, truth.

Inspired by God’s magnificent creation, each work is a tactile offering — meant to stir the senses and speak to the soul.

That you don’t just see the art — you feel it.
